In March 2024 Nvidia NVLink and Resilience Technologies introduced the next-generation graphics processing unit (GPU) microarchitecture and named it Blackwell, it is a successor to Hopper microarchitecture and Ada Lovelace microarchitecture.
Blackwell is named after statistician and mathematician David Blackwell, the Blackwell architecture was leaked in back 2022. As per the reports, the Blackwell has 208 Billion transistors and can be used for very large computing,
This new B200 GPU will help in:
- Data processing.
- Engineering simulation.
- Electronic design automation.
- Computer-Aided drug design.
- Quantum Computing.
- Generative AI.
This new GPU architecture will reduce 25x less cost and energy consumption than its predecessor.
As per source from Nvidia, the new B200 GPU (Blackwell) offers up to 20 petaflops of computation power from its 208 billion transistors and each GPU might cost between $30,000 and $40,000 (early estimations).
